May was a sad month in the world of Irish media with the announcement that The Times Ireland was to cease its print edition as the title moves ahead with a major reorganisation. Staff at the paper have been made redundant with only three positions out of around 20 to be retained to work on the digital product.
RTÉ announced the appointment of Conor Kane as their new South East Correspondent. Kane has been a journalist for over 25 years and has previously worked as a south-east correspondent with the Irish Independent and Irish Examiner.

Doireann Garrihy and Eoghan McDermott are taking over the breakfast show on 2FM in June, replacing Breakfast Republic with Bernard, Keith & Jen. As was revealed last month, Jennifer would be moving to the mid-morning slot that had been left vacant by the departure of Jenny Greene and Nicky Byrne. Jenny Greene is set to return to take over Eoghan McDermott’s drivetime slot. Louise McSharry has gone on maternity leave and Bernard O’Shea has also left the station to focus more on television projects.
Peter has joined SBP as a Business Correspondent.

Hugh announced that he will be joining the Irish Independent in June.

RTE has appointed Neil Leyden as head of RTE.ie. The national broadcaster held a public competition looking for the new product owner of the website. Neil Leyden, who previously worked as a senior product manager for INM, will be expected to lead the “strategic roadmap and oversee the performance of Ireland’s number one media website.”
